Suck On This.
Well everyone knows I am a sucker , no pun intended, for sexual related advertising, especially when it comes to fashion. I think its becuase not only is sex so appealing because we are sexual beings, but it has an allure that only it possesses. But today is not a fashion ad with amazing clothes and accessories, but an ad for prevention of syphilis. The agency Luvi-Ogilvy wanted to raise awareness in a playful manner of syphilis being transmitted through oral sex, and this is what the agency came up with.
Ogilvy used a clever technique, and packaged a condom to look like a lollipop. When you open the condom up it reads , "Syphilis is transmitted by intimate exposure with an infected person, often through oral sex. Taste life, not syphilis". This is so simple and clever and I love this ad, and as you can see from the ratings on this picture of the campaign, it raised awareness and made people more likely to use condoms in all types of sexual encounters.

Carrots. Who thought they could be funny? Oh ya... Crispen, Porter, and Bogusky
So when I was surfing through Ads of the world trying to find my usual fashionista adveristment for clothing, I came across this advertisment for Crsipen, Porter, and Bogusky. Here is the one below from Ads of the World.
Now I must admit, cheesy commercials are not usually my forte, but after watching this one and digging a little deeper, I began to like it even more. This commercial actually has two more that go with it. This one was indulge, then there is a Future, and then Extreme. Each commercial explores a different way that media tries to grab your attention, and pull triggers, and with each new exploration they change the packaging to fit the style of the commercial. Also on the back packing there is very, very clever copy that fits the theme of each commercial. And every commercial ends with the line "Eat Em like junk food" not the most clever headline, but fits perfectly with the commercials and also with the mircorsite CPB also set up www.babycarrots.com. Now the microsite is set up in a fun interactive manner dividing one huge carrot into sections agin of how we are influenced by certain aspects of life, and what consumes most of our time : video games, food, tv, movies, and junk food. There is also a carrot power crunch video game, the new packing for carrots, more videos and commercials, and some carrots running around in viking hats and what not. Even though this did not make me really want to eat carrots, all in all I really enjoyed this whole campaign for trying to make carrots funny, and tasty.

Vibram, Im trying to understand how I am the technology.
Even though I would love to just show you pretty pictures of fashion, which means scantily clad models, all the time, I know this is not possible. So still trying to find the happy medium between high fashion advertising and commercial adverting, I thought this would be perfect for my first post. Now even though I thought this was a happy medium between the two, however, I did not say this was a great example of Advertising. The advertisement and product featured below is for Vibram five fingers running shoe. It claims it has new technology, even though is just looks like some ugly futuristic design like Crocs.
Now in fashion, there is usually some point of the model being nude, here I do not understand why they are. The headline reads, "You are the technology", but if they are the technology why does it look like a tattoo artist was practicing before he made his first tattoo. What I am trying to say is I do not understand the correlation between the visual, headline, and product at all. And on top of it all, the rest of the copy written on the body is nearly impossible to read due to size, and the only way you can read it is if you go to the microsite http://www.youarethetechnology.com and zoom in on the bodies, and it is still difficult to read some of the text. I think it would have been better to show the humans not as canvases but as machinery, almost robotic in nature. But in my opinion, better luck next time Vibram on convincing me or others to buy your shoes.
