Suck On This.
Well everyone knows I am a sucker , no pun intended, for sexual related advertising, especially when it comes to fashion. I think its becuase not only is sex so appealing because we are sexual beings, but it has an allure that only it possesses. But today is not a fashion ad with amazing clothes and accessories, but an ad for prevention of syphilis. The agency Luvi-Ogilvy wanted to raise awareness in a playful manner of syphilis being transmitted through oral sex, and this is what the agency came up with.
Ogilvy used a clever technique, and packaged a condom to look like a lollipop. When you open the condom up it reads , "Syphilis is transmitted by intimate exposure with an infected person, often through oral sex. Taste life, not syphilis". This is so simple and clever and I love this ad, and as you can see from the ratings on this picture of the campaign, it raised awareness and made people more likely to use condoms in all types of sexual encounters.

Pretty cleaver, given the copy... I wouldn't think so if it weren't for that. I am kinda sick of condoms and stuff in Advertising... I understand why and support the cause, but at the same time maybe I am just bored of advertising for sexual based clients? I cant put a finger on it for some reason... At the same time I am getting an eeiry visual in my head involving a cartoonish owl licking these lolly's and then biting them.... EEEP!
